Perhaps one of the most original acts to come out of the U.K in years? Certainly out of my home town Guildford, I can tell you that for nothing.
Critics favourites Micachu & The Shapes released their full length album ‘Jewellery’ last week in the U.K and its been welcomed with open arms by most. If like me, on first listen you found Micachu a little hard to digest, I suggest (and I’m deadly serious about this) that you give her another go. If you need a little advice, draw the curtains, turn your speakers or your headphones up to max, roll yourself a cigarette, brew a strong cup of tea, lie back and get rid of any sort of preconceptions you may have. If you do this, you may just find your new favourite band.
Micachu will make you dance, she’ll make you fall in love, she’ll make you lose yourself and probably spend hours trying to decipher which household goods or toys she put together to make the most original and genre breaking album you’re ever heard. I’ll give you a hint…apparently hoovers are great for bass lines.
Sold? Good. Go buy the album from Rough Trade immediately, by following this LINK.
When they get back from America at the end of March (playing SXSW no less) Micachu and her band are touring the U.K starting on the 28th of March in Bristol and ending up at Adventures in the Beetroot Field at Fabric in London (which by the way has an incredible line up..check it out here).
If you fancy something special however…and by special I mean a whole damn night of Micachu filled goodness you need to get yourself down to their gig in Brighton at the Freebutt on April the 3rd. Because not only will they be spreading the love at the gig, they’re doing a special guest DJ set at the launch of a fantastic new night put on by a very good friend of mine.
The night is called ‘Milk Teeth’ and it resides at Micro Club (next door to Digital on the seafront)…find out more details HERE.
